Tsumori Chisato

by Angelica Castillo Balanta

Tsumori Chisato is a Japanese designer with extensive experience in the fashion world. She studied at Bunka Fashion's famous School in Tokyo, and from the experience of working with Issey Miyake in 1977 as head designer for Issey Sport; in 1990 she launched her first collection at the Tokyo Fashion Week. Since then she has maintained a unique style which is now recognized worldwide for its innovation and eccentric details in patterned fabrics designed for it.

With her last collection A/W 2012-2013 I have seen a really groundbreaking work; inspired by the Swiss cable cars, where she spent her last holidays, Chisato designed pieces resembling these graphical lines. She worked with her husband, whose photos from the Swiss landscape she printed on silk, cotton and tweed, with the objective that each garment was to become a piece of art. She got the results that she wanted: the public attending the catwalk has been delighted by her extremely creative outfits.
