Art Nook: Miami Art Basel

Known for its palm trees, neon lights and ever so lively streets, Miami once again is the host city for one of the biggest art events of the year: Art Basel Miami. As if this city wasn’t multicultural enough, when this annual four day event occurs it becomes a vivid explosion of all things prime to Miami, and a bit of extra spark to top it all off.

For over 40 years this innovative platform for artist masterminds and upcoming artist alike has expanded the vanguard of visual arts; the shows aren’t only for art-lovers, but for avid fashionistas, street style and party-on goers all the same. This year’s designers have expanded their creativity off the runway and extended the limit of their horizons. Take Christian Louboutin for instance, when he exhibited, this past weekend, five leather sculptures by Italian artist Caemelo Tedeschi. Whether for Art Basel Miami or a renewed fashion week, there are no limits for what’s to come and we hope it continues!

With its three annual shows, Art Basel brings the art-world together. No sea, no land, no distance can be a threat to the idea of art. Especially to our Puerto Rican local artists who traveled across the big pond to exhibit their pieces and, with their murals, become part of Miami itself. RIMX, TREK6, SPEAR, TXEMY, Alexis Díaz, Ana Maria, Vero Rivera amongst others have truly outdone themselves plastering their talent amongst other artists. After this memorable weekend we’re already making plans for next year’s event.
